The Exclusive dual diagnosis treatment center in Hawaii offers a holistic and individually customized special treatment program for clients with dual diagnosis. Our integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders helps those who suffer from both a substance abuse addiction and a mental health disorder.
Until the 1990s, mental health disorders such as anxiety attacks, depression, bi-polar disorder, and ADHD were treated separately and treatment for mental illness could not start until the individual got clean and sober. With new innovative treatment developments, clinicians who specialize in addiction treatment can now get training in the treatment of co-occurring mental health disorders. It is important to choose a treatment program that have professionals adept in treating mental health and substance abuse.
Dual Diagnosis Rehab Centers
Many rehab centers claim to offer dual diagnosis treatment, however, the key to an effective dual diagnosis approach is the development of an individualized treatment plan right from the start that addresses all underlying issues that’s contributing to your addiction.
At The Exclusive Hawaii we get to know you and your unique situation before you are admitted to our residential recovery program. We get clear on co-occurring challenges such as anxiety, depression or trauma and design a program approach that deals with these underlying mental-emotional issues right from the start.
One of our highest values is customization and our very comprehensive assessment allows us to serve you best. At our holistic treatment center we consider your whole being and every part of your personal and medical history is considered to design your program.
Get Help from a Dual Diagnosis Program
Co-occurring disorders with substance use disorder is very common. According to SAMHSA’s 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH), approximately 41.2% of those diagnosed with addiction also had a diagnosis of a mental, behavioral, or emotional disorder within the past year.
In many cases those who deal with substance abuse also later on develop a mental health illness like anxiety, depression, or bipolar disorder. This can be brought on by the chemical and neurological imbalances caused by substance abuse as well as destructive mental and emotional processes that occur in drug and alcohol abuse.
In other instances addictions develop in mal-adaptive response patterns to cope with mental illnesses like anxiety, panic disorder, major depression, eating disorders and personality disorders.
Regardless the dual diagnosis client requires specialized care in a dual diagnosis program. Research shows that when underlying mental health conditions are left untreated that the relapse risk is much higher.
Clients who seek treatment for addiction and mental illness may be diagnosed with:
- Mood disorders such as depression, dysthymia and bipolar disorder
- Anxiety disorders panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, phobias and generalized anxiety disorder.
- Eating disorders like bulimia, anorexia, overeating, binge eating disorder, and disordered eating (OSFED)
- Behavioral disorders: Adult Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD/ADD)
